Drafting

This stage of the writing process refers to the first draft of a piece of writing- whether it's a poem, story, comic, newspaper article, or academic essay or report.

Some students don't enjoy writing yet, especially if it is difficult for them for some reason, like being a new English speaker. Luckily, many students get excited to write using a unique format instead of a blank sheet of notebook paper.

Here is a link to instructions on how to fold a mini book out of a single sheet of paper and a pair of scissors. These mini books can be used to record anything from a pair of rhyming words on each page (in Gr. 1 for instance) to an organized story. The limited number of pages can be a good organizational tool while drafting. For instance, having a cover, a beginning, three or four middle events per page, and an end.
